Maverick on Track to be a Mission Stand-by

Rating: ★★★★☆

When I first walked into Maverick, I instantly went into grandma mode. "Ohhh this is just darling! Isn't it cute?! It's just so cute!" If Maverick had cheeks they would've been bright red from all of the pinching. It's a warm, intimate restaurant, which isn't crazy loud, but certainly not awkwardly silent; perfect for any occasion (they even have a table that seats 8-10 if you want to go with a larger group).

If you have been following my reviews, you know I'm obsessed with Meyer lemon, and Maverick has Meyer lemon lemonade. I was taken to a dream world of magic. Not too sugary, not too tart, just wonderfully refreshing.

I happen to be of the opinion that if there is anything labeled as a "fluff" on the menu, it needs to be on my plate, in my belly, NOW. Also, it's just so fun saying it! So, it's no surprise that the crab fluffs was the appetizer of choice. It was everything you'd imagine a fluff to be - light, airy, and delicious. Before I came here for dinner, I already knew what my entree would be; I was going to give my fried chicken virginity to Maverick, having never ordered this dish at a restaurant. That, my friend, was a very good choice. So juicy, so crispy!

On top of the food, the service was amazing. The staff was so attentive, but not overbearing; for example, I was sharing the fluffs and the chicken, and they gave us an extra fluff so we could split it evenly (2 and 2), and they separated the chicken and gave us each full servings of rice and collared greens, which was totally unexpected. And, on top of that, they all had good senses of humor.

The only downside is that the prices are just a little too expensive to make eating here a frequent occurrence, unless, that is, someone wants to invite me! But, they are focused on buying organic produce and sustainable meats and fish, so, I don't mind spending a little bit more for my meal. And, despite my lack of enthusiasm for comfort food, Maverick is now one of my favorite spots in the Mission.
